Rugby - Youth

Rugby is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States.  It is the second most popular sport in the world behind soccer.  In fact, in Europe, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand, the teams and players are elevated to a star status that exceed that of NFL players in the U.S.  Many teams fill 80,000 seat stadiums for international match play.  In this fast paced sport, players play both defense and offense at any given time during a game.  There is a position for everyone who wants to play.  Above all, rugby is a social sport that praises competition but demands good sportsmanship.  It is also a social game filled with good cheer and camaraderie.

The OGRCC Rugby Program: a year-round sport.

Established in 2003, the OGRCC rugby program is aimed to promote the growth and development of the sport by emphasizing game philosophy and its rules, sportsmanship and fair play. The coaching team has an internationally diverse Rugby background (USA, Argentina, Ireland, England, Australia, etc). Participants will learn basic skills progressing from non-contact (U-6) to touch rugby level (U-8) to full contact (U-10, U-12 thru U-14 teams) and travel by participating in local tournaments, friendly matches, and international tours.

Rugby is practiced competitively, mainly, during the spring season. The teams (U10, U12, & U14) have friendly matches, championships, etc. To keep our players competitive during off-season, we offer two summer camps and a less competitive fall season of practices and scrimmages.
