Overview

Experience a fun and creative approach to dance with our partner Magic Dance. The founder of this program, Audrey Appleby, has more than 30 years of experience as a dance educator in Greenwich. Our Dance Instructor, Mara Gardel, uses unique techniques to help children learn the fundamentals of dance, song, and drama. These techniques have introduced thousands of children to the joy of dance and movement. Join us for this wonderful dance program!

Please note:

Monday/Tuesday classes are held at 48 Maple Avenue, Greenwich

Ballet for Ages 2 – 3

Children will learn the foundation for dancing Classical Ballet. Basic Ballet positions, Ballet exercises, across the floor Ballet movement,  rhythm and beat with rhythm sticks and maracas, locomotor movement of walk, run, tiptoe, gallop, jump with a parachute, dance with scarves, freeze dance, and creative acting of Ballet Stories. Leotard, tights and ballet shoes of any color, or play clothes and bare feet with no socks suggested.

Ballet for Ages 4-6

Children will continue to learn the foundation for dancing Classical Ballet. Ballet/Tap for Ages 4 – 6

A combination of ballet and tap classes.  Basic ballet positions, barre exercises, across the floor and creative movement will be followed by an introduction to tap dance with tap barre exercises and across the floor movement.  Double the fun!  Great for rhythm, coordination, and balance.  Ballet shoes are recommended but not required for Ballet portion of the class. Street shoes with hard soles may be worn for tap.  If purchasing tap shoes, please wait until the first class to speak with teacher for her advice. Children learn to take care of their shoes, putting them on, taking them off, and putting them away, with help from the teacher as needed.

Hip Hop for Ages 4 – 6

A combination of fun, upbeat Hip Hop dance steps and choreography to the beat of popular music, learning new steps and combinations, as well as our creative movement program featuring stories and imagination. Comfortable clothing and sneakers required.

Hip Hop for Ages 6 – 8

Popular moves to the latest Pop Song hits and videos, culminating in a fun combination. T-Shirt, leggings and sneakers/jazz shoes are suggested.

Latin Dance for Ages 6-8

Learn the fun moves, steps, and routines of popular Latin dances such as Salsa, Samba, Merengue, Bachata and more!  Children will be introduced to each of the forms in basic steps and will progress at their own pace.  Comfortable clothing and either dance or jazz shoes required.

About Us

The Old Greenwich – Riverside Community Center (OGRCC) offers one of the most comprehensive community youth and adult recreational, athletic, educational and social programs. Our offerings range from art, baseball, cooking, basketball, dance, field hockey, film, rugby, soccer, and tennis. We also offer camps and special clinics by season.
